As I laid beside my daughter to encourage her to go to sleep tonight, I wondered who she will become when she grows up. I know who she is...she's Danica. She will always be Danica. She knows who she is and what she wants to become when she grows up. Just ask her and she will tell you she wants to be a doctor. She has since the age of two. Wow...what two year old can tell you they want to become a doctor and three years later, still want to become a doctor?? You ask her now at the age of five and she will also tell you she wants to be a mommy who is a doctor that helps kids and adults and rides a horse sometimes (because being a cowgirl is cool).
I often wonder, am I raising her to be the woman I want her to be? Will she walk in my footsteps and make the same mistakes I made? I try to raise her to be loving, caring and also to take care of herself. There are times that I know I need to demonstrate a better, kinder love to her. Still, during those times, she is as sweet as a child could ever be. She always tells me I am the best mommy she could ever have. She is the best daughter a mother could have ever asked for from God.
What I want for my daughter:
First and foremost, be a woman of God. Stand tall and have confidence. Always follow your heart. Sometimes it gets you in trouble and gives you heartache but it's part of growing and experiencing life. Know you are beautiful. Never let a man tell you otherwise, anyone for that matter. Do the best you can do. In the end, your hard work will show. Be respectful...Of yourself, others and things. Take pride in what you present to the world, including yourself. Always put a little mascara and lipstick on (although you really don't need any of either. Your eyelashes are long, dark and beautiful and your lips are a pretty pink), it just makes you feel good. Be a good doctor and an even better mommy. Know you can come to me with anything, even if it is disappointing. We all have to learn from our mistakes and I will love you through them all. Last find a man who will love you and cherish you. Never put you down and belittle you. Make sure you are equal, side by side. Never one in front of or behind the other. He needs to respect you physical mentally and verbally. This my child is what I want for you and more. I will never give up on you, even if I am taking my last breathe. I love you with all my heart and more than all the stars up above.
